Langkawi is an island and archipelago of 99 islands located off the coast of northwestern

Malaysia close to the border with Thailand. Two- thirds of the island is dominated by forest- covered mountains, hills and natural vegetation.

Soluna Guest House is located near Cenang Beach, which is situated on the western

shoreline of Langkawi and is the most popular beach in Langkawi. A variety of services

(Water Sports and Jet Ski Tours) are offered and there are also plenty of restaurants and

shops on the main road just behind the beach. Cenang beach is reachable in a 10-15

minutes drive from the airport and a 30 minutes drive from the main ferry terminal

in Kuah Town. Situated next to Cenang Beach is Tengah Beach, which has a narrower

beach with quiet resorts located along it. At night the road next to Tengah Beach gets

lively with all its bars and dining options. Tucked in front and nearby Cenang Beach

and Tengah Beach are many smaller islands with beautiful beaches. There are island

hopping tours offered as well as island- drops if you prefer more privacy and would like

to spend a few hours on a more secluded beach.

Two beaches that should definitely not be missed during your holiday in Langkawi are

Tengkorak Beach and Tanjung Ruh Beach. Both beaches are located on the northern

shoreline of Langkawi and reachable by scooter and car. While Tengkorak Beach is a

smaller, bay- shaped beach without any facilities (bring your own water and food),

Tanjung Rhu beach is a very long stretch of beach which can be divided into three parts.

The first part is right next to the road, with a square and food stalls. The second part is

used by a resort and the third part has a peninsular like shape with sea on one side and

connecting to the mangroves on the other side. The views are very nice.

Other places of interest include Telaga Tujuh Waterfall and Temurun Waterfall. Temurun is

the highest waterfall, while Telaga Tujuh is the most popular. It has pools at the top and the

bottom of the waterfall, reachable in a 10 minutes, or 20 minutes (top of the waterfall) steep

walk from the car park. The views from the top of the waterfall are worth the steep climb.

Following another track from the car park you can also climb to the peak of the mountain for

a breath-taking view from the very top. This trek takes several hours and is only suitable

for experienced hikers. Good shoes and plenty of drinking water are a must. Alternatively

there is also a cable car located a few hundred meters before the car park, which has its

mountain station next to the peak you can reach by trekking, but is not reachable from that

point. At the mountain station you can walk on to the longest free span and curved bridge of

the world and enjoy the views. There are several attractions and restaurants located nearby

the cable car ticket counter.

As mentioned before, two- thirds of Langkawi are dominated by forest covered mountains,

hills and natural vegetation. Therefore it is also an ideal place to discover the forest and mangroves with its abundant flora and fauna. Mangrove Tours and Jungle Treks are offered

to get a close experience with nature. Who likes cycling can also explore some of the rural countryside of Langkawi. Bicycle rentals are available at Cenang- and Tengah Road and

there are many nice small roads to ride with beautiful views of paddy fields, cows, water buffaloes and birds, passing by local villages.
